Community Response to Proposed Kahawai Point Marine Club

Kahawai Point Development Limited is proposing a new community facility in the existing Glenbrook Beach Reserve.

Kahawai Point Development Limited (KPDL) is looking at developing a new community facility at Glenbrook Beach Reserve. This state-of-the-art facility will enrich the area with a new boat ramp and pontoon, coastal groynes, and a sheltered all-weather, all-tide beach. We are also adding open green spaces for recreation, a 3-meter-wide coastal path surrounding the upcoming Stage 3c development and upgraded lookouts at Kahawai Point. Additionally, we are looking at dedicating a space for a new Coast Guard berth.

Survey Results

From 29 July to 8 August 2024, KPDL actively engaged with 101 members of the community through a survey to collect valuable feedback on the proposal. The survey results show overwhelming community support for the Marine Club, with a strong interest in joining and utilising its facilities, including a proposed café. While some concerns were raised about the impact on the marine ecosystem and changes to open space, the overall response has been highly positive.

KPDL appreciates the community’s participation in the survey. We will now incorporate the results in another Land Owner Access Application to the Franklin Local Board. Subject to their input we will then look at the Resource Consent process to achieve the development.  We will also consider the establishment of a Kahawai Point Marine Club.

The development of the Proposal will be subject to suitable Consent Conditions, Funding and Community support. We will keep the community updated as the process progresses and outcomes become available.
